The Consulate General of Italy in San Francisco, INNOVIT – Italian Innovation and Culture Hub, and the European Union Office in San Francisco hosted an EU-US Interparliamentary Meeting of the Transatlantic Legislators’ Dialogue, bringing together members of the European Parliament and the United States Congress for a discussion on deep tech cooperation and the future of the transatlantic partnership.
The meeting focused on the growing strategic importance of frontier technologies for economic competitiveness, industrial development, security, and resilience on both sides of the Atlantic.
Consul General Massimo Carnelos highlighted Europe’s significant strengths in deep tech, including its highly skilled engineering talent, world-class research and development centers, advanced industrial capabilities, and strong manufacturing base. These assets provide a solid foundation for Europe to play an increasingly prominent role in the technological transformation currently reshaping the global economy.
The discussion also emphasized the opportunity to strengthen the transatlantic alliance through closer cooperation in deep tech and other frontier technologies. Combining Europe’s scientific and industrial capabilities with the technological, entrepreneurial, and investment strengths of the United States can contribute to greater economic competitiveness and security at a time of increasing geopolitical and technological competition.
The meeting offered an important platform for dialogue between European and American legislators, institutions, and technology experts on how to translate these complementary strengths into deeper cooperation and more resilient transatlantic innovation ecosystems.
The Consulate General extends its appreciation to the Chairs and Co-Chairs of the Transatlantic Legislators’ Dialogue, Hon. Brando Benifei, Rep. Nathaniel Moran, and Rep. Jim Costa, as well as to panelists Steve Jacobs, Amy Larsen, and David Evan Harris for contributing their perspectives to the discussion.
Hosting the dialogue at INNOVIT also reaffirmed the Hub’s role as a platform for connecting European institutions and innovation with Silicon Valley and for advancing discussions at the intersection of technology, economic competitiveness, and international cooperation.
