The Consulate General of Italy in San Francisco hosted a special event celebrating Alfa Romeo, bringing together members of the Alfa Romeo community in San Francisco and the Bay Area to honor one of the most iconic names in Italian automotive history.
Founded in Milan in 1910 as A.L.F.A. – Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili – the company later became Alfa Romeo following the arrival of entrepreneur Nicola Romeo. Over more than a century, the brand has become synonymous around the world with Italian design, engineering, performance, and unmistakable style.
Alfa Romeo’s history is also inseparable from motorsport. The company won the inaugural World Manufacturers’ Championship in 1925 and went on to claim the first two Formula One World Drivers’ Championships, in 1950 and 1951, with Giuseppe “Nino” Farina and Juan Manuel Fangio respectively.
The Alfa Romeo story is closely intertwined with another legendary name in Italian automotive history. Enzo Ferrari founded Scuderia Ferrari in 1929 to race Alfa Romeo cars, before eventually establishing the company that would bear his own name.
Beyond the racetrack, models such as the Giulietta, introduced in the 1950s, helped bring Alfa Romeo’s combination of performance, elegance, and innovative engineering to a broader public, becoming enduring symbols of Italian automotive culture.
The event at the Consulate celebrated this remarkable heritage together with the Alfa Romeo community of San Francisco and the Bay Area, highlighting a tradition in which technological innovation and engineering excellence have always gone hand in hand with creativity, design, and style.
More than a century after its founding, Alfa Romeo continues to embody a distinctive expression of Made in Italy, connecting Italy’s automotive heritage with an enduring passion for beauty, performance, and innovation.
