Consul General Massimo Carnelos and his staff welcomed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Regione Lazio, represented by President Francesco Rocca, during the Region’s official mission to San Francisco. The agreement represents a significant step toward strengthening support for the international growth and development of innovative SMEs and startups from Lazio in the United States.

The Memorandum establishes a framework for cooperation aimed at fostering new opportunities for Italian companies operating in high-value and innovation-driven sectors, while promoting closer ties between the entrepreneurial, technological, and scientific ecosystems of Italy and Silicon Valley. The initiative reflects a shared commitment to advancing innovation, entrepreneurship, and international competitiveness through strategic partnerships and the exchange of expertise.

Particular attention will be devoted to facilitating dialogue and collaboration among research institutions, investors, technology leaders, startups, and innovative enterprises, creating new pathways for growth, investment, and market access while further strengthening Lazio’s presence within one of the world’s foremost centers of innovation.

A key role in the implementation of the agreement will be played by INNOVIT – Italian Innovation and Culture Hub in San Francisco, which will serve as a platform for networking, acceleration, and institutional engagement. Through its programs and initiatives, INNOVIT will contribute to showcasing the excellence of Lazio’s innovation ecosystem and fostering meaningful connections with partners and stakeholders throughout the United States.

The collaboration will focus on strategic sectors in which Lazio has developed internationally recognized expertise, including aerospace, agrifood, automotive, blue economy, life sciences, green economy, creative and digital industries, as well as cultural heritage and related technologies.

By strengthening the connections between talent, research, entrepreneurship, and investment, the agreement further consolidates the longstanding relationship between Italy and the United States and highlights the growing role of innovation as a pillar of transatlantic cooperation. It represents a concrete commitment to creating new opportunities for sustainable growth and to supporting the international success of Italian excellence in technology, science, and industry.
