Deputy Prime Minster and Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani joins today in the commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, emphasizing the importance of keeping alive the awareness of the weight and gravity of past events, especially for future generations, among the youth and in schools, to ensure that such crimes never occur again in the history of humanity.

As stated by the Minister in a video message broadcasted to the entire Italian diplomatic and consular network and to Italian schools abroad on this occasion, “the fight against anti-Semitism is an absolute priority for me personally, for the Government, and for the entire country, which has always been committed to promoting a culture of respect and peaceful coexistence through education, memory, and a firm defense of human rights.”

“We must start from primary schools to teach every child that there is no room for hating another person because of their religious beliefs. Remembering is a duty; acting is a responsibility,” Tajani continued.

The values that inspire the Italian Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights affirm a radical rejection of totalitarian and racist ideologies that led to the horrors of World War II. In light of the tragic events of October 7, 2023, there are signs of a growing resurgence of anti-Semitism in Europe and around the world, manifesting through senseless attacks, harassment, and generally hateful rhetoric against people of Jewish faith or origin.

In the face of these alarming trends, Italy is determined to remain vigilant and to intensify efforts to preserve the memory of the Holocaust. Minister Tajani has reaffirmed our country’s commitment to combating anti-Semitism on several recent occasions, most recently during his visit to Israel in early January.

Italy remains on the front lines in the fight against all forms of anti-Semitism, both nationally and internationally, reiterating its total incompatibility with our values and principles and firmly condemning all forms of denialism, discrimination, and violence against the Jewish community.
