The Consulate General of Italy in San Francisco hosted a special gala in support of the Museo Italo Americano and its project to renovate the historic building at 940 Battery Street, creating a new Casa Italia in the heart of San Francisco.

The project, strongly supported by the Consulate General and the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco, represents an important investment in preserving and promoting the history, culture, and identity of the Italian and Italian-American community in the Bay Area.

Since its founding, the Museo Italo Americano has played an important role in documenting and celebrating the contribution of generations of Italian Americans to the economic, social, and cultural development of San Francisco. Its new home at 940 Battery Street will provide an opportunity to expand that mission while creating a dynamic space dedicated to Italian art, culture, heritage, and contemporary creativity.

Consul General Massimo Carnelos highlighted the Museum’s natural place within Sistema Italia in San Francisco and the importance of developing a Casa Italia capable of bringing together the many dimensions of the Italian presence in the city—from the historical legacy of the Italian-American community to the contemporary promotion of Italian culture.

The Consulate General and the Italian Cultural Institute support the fundraising campaign for the renovation of 940 Battery Street, recognizing the project’s potential to create a lasting cultural institution and a new point of reference for Italy in San Francisco.

The gala also provided an opportunity to recognize the commitment of the Museo Italo Americano team and the progress already made toward bringing the project to life.

The Consulate General extends its appreciation to Executive Director Sandra Bagnatori and the entire Museo Italo Americano team for their dedication to this ambitious initiative and for their continued work in preserving and promoting Italian-American heritage in the Bay Area.

Casa Italia will build on that heritage while looking to the future: a place where the history of the Italian-American community and the vitality of contemporary Italian culture can come together under one roof.
