Consul General Massimo Carnelos was pleased to join innovators, investors, and technology leaders in San Francisco for the presentation of The 2026 Deep Tech Report by Steven Jacobs and Lukas Leitner of Drumbeat Capital.

The event provided an opportunity to reflect on the strategic importance of deep technologies as drivers of the next industrial transformation and as key pillars of future collaboration between Europe and North America. As technological innovation increasingly reshapes global competitiveness, deeper cooperation across the Atlantic will be essential to accelerating scientific discovery, strengthening industrial resilience, and bringing breakthrough technologies to market.

Discussions focused on the complementary strengths of the European and North American innovation ecosystems, including world-class universities, research institutions, advanced manufacturing capabilities, entrepreneurial talent, investment networks, and highly specialized industrial supply chains. Together, these assets create unique opportunities to accelerate innovation and strengthen international partnerships.

Particular attention was devoted to sectors expected to play a defining role in the coming decades, including advanced computing, aerospace, artificial intelligence, robotics, advanced materials, next-generation energy technologies, defense innovation, and other strategic deep-tech fields.

The Consulate General extends its appreciation to Steven Jacobs and Lukas Leitner for their insightful presentation and for contributing to an important dialogue on the future of transatlantic innovation.
