The Consulate General of Italy in San Francisco welcomed a delegation from Assolombarda, the business association representing the provinces of Milan, Lodi, Monza and Brianza, and Pavia, for a two-day mission to the Bay Area focused on innovation, advanced manufacturing, and emerging technologies.

The program began at INNOVIT – Italian Innovation and Culture Hub, where Consul General Massimo Carnelos welcomed Assolombarda President Alvise Biffi, Vice Managing Director Cristian Ferraris, Head of Innovation Paolo Guazzotti, and the delegation to discuss opportunities for strengthening cooperation between Italy’s industrial ecosystem and Silicon Valley. The mission also included an evening reception at the Consulate General, where Consul General Massimo Carnelos welcomed the Assolombarda delegation.

During the mission, the delegation visited several leading technology organizations at the forefront of artificial intelligence, robotics, and next-generation mobility, including NVIDIA, Zoox, the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI), and the Stanford Robotics Center. The meetings offered valuable opportunities to exchange views on the technological trends reshaping global industry and to explore new avenues for collaboration between Italian manufacturing excellence and California’s innovation ecosystem.

Particular attention was devoted to the growing convergence between advanced manufacturing and frontier technologies such as physical AI, spatial AI, robotics, automation, and deep tech. Italy’s industrial capabilities—built on world-class engineering, highly specialized supply chains, advanced manufacturing expertise, and exceptional craftsmanship—represent a natural complement to California’s leadership in technological innovation.
