The Italian Cultural Institute and the Consulate General in San Francisco hosted an unforgettable Film Masterclass with Roman Coppola, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker whose career has helped shape contemporary cinema across film, music videos, and visual storytelling.

In a lively and thought-provoking dialogue with UCLA film professor Pietro Pinto, Coppola opened the doors to his creative world, sharing rare insights into his process, influences, and the strategies he uses to navigate art, collaboration, and the film industry. The conversation moved fluidly across disciplines, offering inspiration not only to filmmakers, but to creatives of all kinds.

As President of the legendary San Francisco–based production company American Zoetrope, Coppola offered a behind-the-scenes perspective on independent filmmaking, creative risk-taking, and the power of storytelling in an ever-changing industry.

Consul General Massimo Carnelos and the interim Director of the IIC, Mario Zaccagnino, offered opening remarks during the sold-out event, which was more than a masterclass, as the intimate exchange was marked by curiosity, humor, and generosity—between an acclaimed artist and an engaged audience.

The Consulate General and the Italian Cultural Institute extend their sincere gratitude to Roman Coppola for his openness and brilliance, and Pietro Pinto for his sharp and insightful moderation of this exceptional conversation.
