Referendum abrogativi 2025 – Informazioni

What are we voting for?
With the Decrees of the President of the Republic of 31/03/2025, published in the Official Gazette, General Series, no. 75, of 31/03/2025, five popular abrogative referendums were called for
1. Italian citizenship: Halving from 10 to 5 years the period of legal residence in Italy of non-EU foreigners of age for the request to be granted Italian citizenship.
2. Increasing guardianship employment contract – regulation of illegitimate dismissals: Repeal.
3. Small enterprises – dismissals and related indemnities: Partial repeal.
4. Partial repeal of rules on the setting of time limits to the employment contract, maximum duration and conditions for extensions and renewals.
5. Exclusion of joint and several liability of the principal, the contractor and the subcontractor for accidents suffered by the employee of the contractor or subcontractor, as a consequence of the specific risks inherent in the activity of the contractors or subcontractors: Repeal.

Who can vote abroad?

  • Voters registered with AIRE (Anagrafe degli Italiani Residenti all’Estero), who receive the electoral package directly at their address of residence abroad
  • Italians temporarily abroad for at least three months, exclusively FOR WORK, STUDY OR MEDICAL CARE REASONS, and family members living with them abroad.

PLEASE NOTE: voters temporarily abroad must submit a specific request to the Italian municipality of residence BY MAY 7 in order to receive the electoral package.

When do you vote?

  • In Italy, voting takes place on Sunday 8 and Monday 9 June 2025.

Voters abroad vote in advance, by mail. Packages will be sent to the address of residence by MAY 21.

PLEASE NOTE: Voters who have not yet received their electoral package BY MAY 25 may contact their consular office to obtain a DUPLICATE.

How do I vote?
Voting is by mail. Ballot papers must be returned to the consulate, carefully following the instructions on the information sheet in the ballot envelope and using only the material provided with it. Only voted ballot papers delivered to the relevant consular office NO LATER THAN 4 p.m. local time on Thursday JUNE 5 will be sent to Italy for processing.
