STUDY and MISSION VISAS: Fingerprinting Requirement Removed for US, Canadian, Japanese, UK citizens

Effective 11 June 2025, citizens of the U.S., Canada, Japan, and U.K. are exempted from the fingerprinting requirement for study and mission visas.

As in previous years, applicants for study visas may now submit applications via their university’s or academic program’s batch process, if they arranged one with this office in prior years.

Alternately, applicants can contact the Honorary Consul closest to them to have their signatures on the application form authenticated, then mail their complete application packets, including passports, photos, payment, and prepaid USPS envelope for the return of their passports, to our address at 2590 Webster Street, San Francisco CA 94115. Please put ‘ATTN: VISA OFFICE’ on the outside of the envelope for faster service.

As in previous years, applicants for mission visas may now submit applications via their military base’s passport officers.

Alternately, applicants can have their signatures on their application forms authenticated by a JAG officer or federal notary, then mail their complete application packets, including passports, photos, payment, and prepaid USPS envelope for the return of their passports, to our address at 2590 Webster Street, San Francisco CA 94115. Please put ‘ATTN: VISA OFFICE’ on the outside of the envelope for faster service.

Citizens of nations other than the four listed above are not exempted from the fingerprinting requirement and must book an appointment through https://prenotami.esteri.it to visit our San Francisco location in person to submit an application.
