The Consulate General of Italy in San Francisco welcomed the successful conclusion of the Life Sciences Program at INNOVIT – Italian Innovation and Culture Hub, an intensive two-week initiative designed to accelerate the international growth of Italy’s most promising life sciences startups by connecting them with Silicon Valley’s leading innovation ecosystem.
The program brought 23 innovative Italian companies to the Bay Area for a series of meetings, mentoring sessions, and strategic engagements with investors, entrepreneurs, researchers, and some of the region’s foremost institutions, including Stanford Medicine, Stanford Biodesign, Berkeley SkyDeck, and Bakar Labs. The initiative concluded with a Demo Day, where participating companies presented their technologies and business strategies to an audience of investors, industry leaders, and ecosystem stakeholders.
Opening the event, Consul General Massimo Carnelos highlighted the strategic importance of life sciences as one of Italy’s leading innovation sectors. With a production value exceeding €60 billion, a globally recognized research ecosystem, and a position among the world’s leading pharmaceutical exporters, Italy continues to strengthen its role as an international hub for scientific excellence, advanced manufacturing, and technological innovation.
The Demo Day was preceded by a discussion on “AI and the Role of Life Science,” featuring Marco Quarta, Co-Founder of Rubedo Life Sciences, and Professor Paolo Ferragina of Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa, who explored the transformative impact of artificial intelligence on biomedical research, healthcare, and the future of the life sciences industry.
Beyond the individual achievements of the participating companies, the program fostered an environment of collaboration, peer learning, and knowledge exchange. Throughout the two weeks, founders worked closely with mentors and one another to refine their strategies, strengthen their business models, and prepare for international expansion, demonstrating the value of building a community of innovators capable of growing together.
The program concluded with a networking breakfast at the Consulate General, where Deputy Consul General Davide Corriero welcomed the participating startups and congratulated them on the successful completion of the program.
By facilitating connections among startups, investors, research institutions, corporations, and global innovation leaders, INNOVIT continues to create new opportunities for Italian entrepreneurship to scale internationally.
