Consul General Massimo Carnelos completed his fourth mission to Seattle in the past year, further strengthening Italy’s engagement with one of the United States’ most dynamic economic, technological, scientific, and cultural regions.

The mission reflected the strategic importance of the Seattle area, a global center for cloud computing, artificial intelligence, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, and emerging technologies, as well as a vibrant cultural hub with leading museums, universities, and institutions offering significant opportunities for collaboration with Italy.

The institutional program included a meeting with Seattle Deputy Mayor Brian Surratt, providing an opportunity to discuss the growing relationship between Italy and the city and explore new areas of cooperation. Consul General Carnelos also visited Microsoft, where he met with Giovanni Severini for discussions on technological innovation and the rapidly evolving digital economy.

Culture and scientific cooperation were also an important part of the mission. Meetings at the Seattle Art Museum and the Frye Art Museum explored opportunities for future cultural collaboration, while the Consul General met with members of the newly established Seattle Chapter of ISSNAF – Italian Scientists and Scholars in North America Foundation, highlighting the growing presence and contribution of Italian researchers and professionals in the Pacific Northwest.

The mission also included a series of visits accompanying a delegation from Intesa Sanpaolo to leading companies and innovation centers across the region, including Meta, the University of Washington’s Global Innovation Exchange, TerraPower, Starlink, and Blue Origin. The program offered first-hand insight into developments in artificial intelligence, advanced technologies, energy, aerospace, and the space economy, while creating opportunities for dialogue between Italian stakeholders and the Seattle innovation ecosystem.

The visit reaffirmed the Consulate General’s commitment to expanding Italy’s presence and partnerships throughout its Pacific Northwest jurisdiction, connecting Italian institutions, companies, researchers, and cultural organizations with one of the world’s leading centers of technological, industrial, and cultural innovation.

The Consulate General extends its appreciation to Greater Seattle Partners and to all the institutions, companies, organizations, and individuals who contributed to the mission and its program.
