The Consulate General of Italy in San Francisco together with the Italian Trade Agency (ITA), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT), and leading Italian Life Sciences associations, presented the 9th edition of “Italy on the Move”, a flagship event dedicated to fostering collaboration between Italian and American Life Sciences stakeholders.

Held alongside the 44th J.P. Morgan Annual Healthcare Conference and as part of the Montalcini Global Biotech Tour, the event showcased Italy as a global hub for innovation, biotech, and advanced manufacturing.

During the event, Consul General Massimo Carnelos underscored Italy’s emergence as manufacturing and research powerhouse: first in Europe for manufacturing firms, second in production value, and fourth globally for exports. The country ranks first worldwide in scientific research and patent productivity, with Life Sciences and Biotech leading the way. Italy has also seen one of the steepest increases in foreign direct investment in Europe, making it a top destination for global investors.

To accelerate investment, the government has established a “one-stop shop” for investors, introduced single-authorization procedures for projects over €1B, empowered rapid execution for projects above €25M, and assigned dedicated teams and tutors for tailored support. Ten regions are Special Economic Zones, offering incentives, tax credits, and benefits for companies and workers. Combined with a deep STEM talent pool and competitive labor costs, Italy is ready for business.

The program featured a high-level roundtable discussion with U.S. and Italian industry leaders who shared firsthand experiences investing in and partnering with Italy, followed by a networking aperitivo celebrating Italian innovation and collaboration.
