5th World Week of Italian Cuisine: November 16th-22nd

On the occasion of the fifth edition of the World Week of Italian Cuisine November 16th-22nd, the Consulate General of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute in San Francisco with the support of the Accademia Italiana della Cucina in SF proudly present a series of events to highlight the benefits of the Mediterranean Diet and to promote the importance of authentic products in the Italian cuisine.

The week will showcase two online zoom events, one about the Southern Italian grapes and one about the future innovations of food and benefits of the Med Diet with special guest Joseph Puglisi (Stanford Professor) interviewed by Chiara Cecchini (Future Food Lab) with opening remarks by Lorenzo Ortona, Consul General of Italy in San Francisco, and Stefano Pisani, Mayor of Pollica.

The Consulate General will then host the 1st edition of the “Carol Field Award”, initiating an award that celebrates the woman who dedicated her life to bringing the best of Italian cuisine and baking to the Bay Area. The award will be offered to Americans who have dedicated their professional life to bringing the best of Italian food to this part of the United States. The recipient of this year’s award will be Mr. Larry Mindel founder of “Poggio” restaurant and the renowned chain “Il Fornaio”.

A final event, organized by the Italian Cultural Institute with the support of the Italian Consulate General in San Francisco, will screen two classics of the Italian cinema at the Fort Mason Drive-In, Sergio Leone’s “A fistful of dollars” with Clint Eastwood and Steno’s “Un Americano a Roma” with Alberto Sordi.
