Flight connections between Italy and the USA

Alitalia has announced it will resume direct flights from New York (JFK) to Rome (FCO) as of June 2, 2020. See the press release.

The Embassy reminds that Italians wishing to return to Italy will have to comply with the provisions adopted by the Italian authorities for the containment of the contagion. For more information and to download the self-declaration forms that must be presented to the air carrier and upon returning into the country, please consult the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

The Italian Embassy in Washington informs that some American and European companies continue to ensure connections from the main cities in the US to European airports from which it is possible to continue the journey to Italy. Attention is also drawn to the importance of avoiding the expiration of the visa or ESTA.

Alitalia announced that flights from New York (JFK) to Rome (FCO) will be suspended from May 5th through May 31st, 2020. 

There are no limitations imposed on those Italian citizens that wish to leave the United States to re-enter Italy, however they must adhere to the rentry guidlines outlined by the Italian Authorities regarding the containment of the coronavirus. For further information and to download the self-declaration forms that must be presented to airlines upon re-entry to Italy, please consult the website of the Ministero degli Affari Esteri e Cooperazione Internazionale

Please note that some United States and European airlines continue to ensure connections from principal cities in the USA with layovers in European countries, from which point citizens can then complete the remainder of their re-entry into Italy.

Lastly, the Embassy and the Consulate General of Italy remind Italians in the USA of the importance of leaving the USA ahead of the VISA or ESTA expiry dates.

Washington, May 1, 2020. The Italian Embassy in Washington continues to maintain close contacts with Alitalia to ensure direct connections between the United States and Italy in the coming days, despite the ban on entry for those who have been in the Schengen area in the last 14 days decided by the American Authorities starting from March 13th.

Please note that this prohibition does not apply to American citizens and their family members, foreigners with permanent residence and their family members who must follow the procedures set by the Department of Homeland Security upon arrival.

There are no limitations for Italians who want to leave the United States to return to Italy, where they will have to comply with the provisions adopted by the Italian authorities. ‚ÄčAlitalia plans to maintain 1 flight per day from New York (JFK) to Rome (FCO) until May 5, 2020. In the following days flights may be cancelled, delayed or suffer unforseen changes. It is essential that passengers remain in direct contact with the carrier to ascertain the status of their flight. Domestic flights are subject to change based on the contingent situation.
